Allergy & Asthma Associates of Stamford was founded by the late Monroe Coleman in 1950. Dr. Coleman returned a few years earlier after serving as a medical doctor with the US Army on the battlefields of Europe, during the Second World War. Dr. Monroe Coleman was the first allergist in Fairfield County. Dr. Coleman believed in helping the community which he lived in. For many years he was teaching Columbia University Medical students who came to classes at Stamford hospital. He was named as a Columbia Professor of Medicine. He also served as the President of the New England Society of Allergy & Immunology.
In 1987 his daughter Dr. Leslie Coleman joined him at the practice. They continued to practice medicine together until the very last days of his life, when he would come to the office and they would jointly discuss patients' cases. Thus, Dr. Leslie Coleman benefited from being trained by, and working along side, one of the best allergists and now has 30+ years of experience in the industry.
